October 16, 2006.14:32 Whew!
Man, long time no post!
Well, things have been craaaaaazy, so at least I have an excuse.
The news rundown--man, has it been that long since I updated?--my comic "Digger" was nominated for an Eisner, did not win an Eisner, (but it's an honor just to be nominated!) won both the WCCA awards for Outstanding Anthropomorphic and Outstanding Black and White. Volume II is out and can be ordered at www.sofawolf.com
Got a literary agent entirely by accident. Wrote a children's book, also partly by accident. Agent sold children's book to Harcourt Brace, not at all by accident (she's a hard workin' woman!), so look for "Nurk" (working title only) the saga of a shrew, a snailshell, and a villainous star-nosed mole coming to a bookstore near you, probably at least two years from now.
Seriously, if you've ever thought "Do I need an agent?" I can't reccomend the species highly enough. They do all the schmoozing and mailing and calling and stuff that I wouldn't want to do in a million years, AND they negotiate the contracts and feel no qualms about saying "Give us more money!" It's a Good Thing.
And of course, new art!
June 13, 2006.22:53 Cons, Comics, and Craziness
Whew! Lotta stuff goin' on!
First of all, thank you to CGSociety for featuring my portfolio as one of their hot portfolios--my gut reaction is to fall to my knees moaning "I'm not worrrrrthy!" but I'll try to cling to some semblance of dignity, such little as I have...
I'll be at Anthrocon in Pittsburgh this coming weekend--if you're in the area, swing by the dealer's room and say hi! I'll gibber at you. (I'm generally not at my best at Cons, what can I say?) I'll also be at HeroesCon in Charlotte at the end of the month, so again, if you're in the area...
Finally, my webcomic Digger is up for two Web Cartoonists Choice Awards--Outstanding Black and White Art, and Outstanding Anthropomorphic. My gratitude to those who voted in the nomination round, and--err--well, I always feel weird saying "Vote for my comic!" so I'm just gonna say "Go check out the WCCA site and consider voting for any of the comics listed--they've all got stuff to recommend 'em, damnit."
You can view Digger at www.graphicsmash.com , and the WCCA awards at www.ccawards.com
April 06, 2006.02:04 Eisner Nomination
As y'all may or may not be aware, in addition to the art thing, I do this webcomic called "Digger" which is about a wombat. And gods and demons and priests and trolls and oracular slugs and retired pirates and all manner of other stuff, but mostly a wombat.
Well, "Digger" and I--or I by way of "Digger"--or something like that--got nominated for an Eisner award in the "Talent Deserving of WIder Recognition" category.
I should probably say something suave and cool and artistic, but I got nothin'. I basically just sat and giggled for a bit. I have about as much chance of winning said award as a bottle of Elmer's glue does of sweeping the Kentucky Derby, but it really is an honor just to be nominated.
But anyway, since it's on my mind, if anybody'd like to check out Digger--it's subscription archives, but there's some free stuff at the beginning, and the current page is always free--you can do so at:
Well, I haven't been able to visit as much of the site as I want to yet, since I'm closing on a house in (erp!) two and a half days. About the only thing I've gotten packed is books. Admittedly, there's a lot of books to pack, but compared to the sheer mass of non-books, it's a tragic non-amount.
I don't dare pack the art yet. The art is all that's holding the walls at bay.
Still, I'm looking forward to getting back in the swing of things! And at last I'll have my own studio that's mine, all mine, where I can write on the walls and put so many nail holes in the wall, it looks like swiss cheese. That's worth it right there...
March 25, 2006.01:04 Hello, world!
Well, this is your usual inane "Hi, there, new gallery!" post.
Err....
Very excited to be here (and a trifle nervous, granted the exorbitant amount of talent I keep tripping over in odd corners of the site.) Forgive my initial fumbling as I attempt to get up to speed on the interface!
